QICWARE Article A0014

Requesting assistance with reporting tools

Experience has shown that in order to review any QICLOOK, RPG or SQL/ODBC support request in the most effective manor to all parties, that at a minimum the following items be supplied along with your request for assistance.

  • The exact SQL, RPG or QICLOOK report.
  • The actual data files that can be used to recreate the report.
  • The actual #FILES used.

These three items should then be archived together in an XTAPE file and then compressed. Please do not send low level .dat or .idx files. In many cases 100MB+ archives will compress down to just a few megabytes. The one compressed XTAPE file should then be submitted to support as a single attachment to an email covering the details of the issue. For more information on creating an XTAPE file, please refer to the *XTAPE section of the QICWARE Utilities Manual. Information on configuring an XTAPE device can be found in the qcfig section of the QICWARE Reference Manual.

Additionally, in the case of SQL/ODBC setup issues, a copy of the SQL ini files located in the QICWARE etc/qsql directory should be submitted also as attachments.

Please supply all relevant software version numbers:

  • The RPG version number can be located, after RPG has run at least one time, by using *MAINTQ to view the X000 record in the #QCLERRS file.
  • The QICLOOK version number can be located by using *MAINTQ to view the M0000 record in the #QCLMSG file.
  • The SYSTEM version number can be found by running *CONSOLE.

These same steps should be followed for requesting assistance with BEST/AOS reporting tools. Use X00 instead of X000 to view the RPG version number.
